Sicilia

During the whole of its history Sicily has been ruled by foreign peoples. At the beginning of the first millennium BC came the Phoenicians. After that followed Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantians, Arabs, Normans, Spaniards, the French, the Bourbons, the Italians.

The Romans may have ruled for 700 years but the most impressive monuments are nevertheless Greek, dating back to pre-Roman times. When you visit Sicily it is inconceivable not to go to the sites of the ancient Greek city-states: Agrigento, Segesta, Selinunte, Siracusa, Taormina...

I intend to show pictures from all these places and some Roman sites too, notably the Villa Romana del Casale at Piazza Armerina with its famous floor mosaics.
